Methodology and sources

Every result comes from your inputs and the formulas below. No current market figures or future forecasts are filled in automatically.

Reporting currency and scope

Goals, simulation balances and portfolio totals use USD. Individual holdings may use KRW or USD. English is an interface choice, not an assumption about residence. Tax presets are illustrative Korean regular-account comparisons; they are not a US personal tax model.

Required capital

Net annual yield = gross annual yield × (1 − tax rate × taxable portion)
Capital = monthly net goal × 12 ÷ net annual yield

Capital is displayed rounded up to the next USD cent. A zero goal needs zero capital. A positive goal with zero net yield is unachievable. The 3%, 5% and 7% comparisons are assumptions rather than current product yields.

Holdings and taxes

Gross annual income = shares × annual distribution per share
Estimated tax = gross income × holding tax rate × taxable portion
Net annual income = gross income − estimated tax
Yield on cost = annual distribution per share ÷ average purchase cost

Current yield uses the entered current price instead of average cost. The relevant ratio is unavailable for a zero denominator or missing price. Invested cost is shares × average cost. Holding tax settings are independent from the goal settings.

Currency conversion

KRW amounts are divided by your KRW-per-USD rate. For example, KRW 140,000 at a rate of 1,400 equals USD 100. A USD-only portfolio needs no exchange rate. If a KRW holding is present without a rate, combined USD totals are unavailable. Converted cost is not a reconstruction of historical USD payments. Fees and exchange spreads are excluded.

Additional purchases

Monthly gap = MAX(0, goal − portfolio monthly net income)
Additional shares = ROUNDUP(gap × 12 ÷ selected holding annual net income per share in USD)
Additional capital = whole additional shares × current price

Each scenario fills the entire gap using one selected holding. Historical average cost is not used as a new purchase price. An already-met goal needs zero additional shares.

Reinvestment

Monthly dividends use the opening balance × net annual yield ÷ 12. Reinvested dividends and contributions are added at month end, then the new income capacity is tested against the goal. Price and distribution growth are zero, fractional investing is assumed and the limit is 1,200 months. This is independent of actual payment dates.

Calendar and precision

Entered dates and gross per-share payments determine the calendar. Dates are not predicted or repeated automatically. Holdings without dates remain in portfolio totals. Calendar sums need not match annual distribution assumptions. KRW is displayed to whole won and USD to cents; internal calculations retain full precision.

Not supported

ISA and pension tax treatment, final income tax, deductions, foreign tax credits, trading profits, total return, payment eligibility, fees and inflation are excluded. Required blanks, optional blanks, negative inputs and non-finite values are distinguished.
